Hidden Charges - SHIPPING charges & CANCELLATION charges

I just had a MOST unpleasant experience with the publisher I am used for my last two books.

After telling them up front what my limitations were, and having them volunteer to do formatting and pdfs for $75, we agreed upon a price, a layout, formatting, etc. Then the pdfs were delayed getting to me. Then when I got them, they had so many errors they had to go back. Many of the corrections were not made, and as some were corrected, it
would change the layout and cause other problems. I kept telling them when I needed the books and asking if the books would arrive on time. Last night they notified me it would cost $140 to ship them to me on time.

Today they upped that price to $340! Regular shipping would be around $50, but for their delays, they want to charge me $340. $340 just for shipping! That's more than the books COST! Put it together and it is about $700 for $340 worth of books!!!

I suggested we just cancel the order and I would self-publish like I had originally planned, but there is a $100 cancellation charge!

Look out for hidden charges!

After much discussion, I think I have resolved this issue to my satisfaction, but it involves shipping the books to another location where I will pick them up later than I originally planned. It should not have been this difficult, or potentially so expensive.

I hope some of you can learn from my experience and make sure you even get the shipping charges in writing. I believe this company held me up and put off answering specific questions to put me in a situation where I would feel like I had no choice. You ALWAYS have choices.

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe one holy catholic (universal) and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
